Building high-performing virtual teams


A global professional services firm with 160,000+ employees in over 150 countries was challenged with creating a cohesive team environment for a newly formed 60-member team of senior leaders. The team was formed rather quickly and members were located in multiple locations around the world. It was highly unlikely that the team would ever meet physically, but it was critical that the team was able to work closely together in a virtual environment.


Through an enterprise-wide GlobeSmart® license, the firm partnered with an Aperian Global Web Tools Marketing Manager to focus on using the tool to leverage the differences of work-styles within the team.

  • The GlobeSmart ProfileSM team average was used as a basis for a virtual-facilitated discussion, whereby the team identified similarities and differences among them, and strategies to leverage both.
  • Through a GlobeSmart Profile Debrief, an open discussion about the GlobeSmart Profile, the team was able to explore how they may need to modify their work-styles to interact with one another, build relationships, manage meetings and make decisions efficiently.

The virtual, diverse team came to understand the need for conscious agreement of how a project team comes together and recognized the impact of cultural differences on collaboration. The GlobeSmart Profile Debrief session resulted in a stronger, more productive team with a new set of skills to manage virtual interactions more effectively.
