We asked: What brought you to the cross-cultural field?

The diversity of professionals working in the cross-cultural field is immense, whether it is their diverse academic background, diverse areas of work experience, or the diversity of career paths people took. The variety of ways that brought them to this field, however, shares a common aspect.

Professionals working in the cross-cultural field are highly intrinsically motivated to help others succeed across cultures (Franz, Salzbrenner & Schulze, 2014). While the last years have seen an influx of interest in the topic and new Bachelor/Master Degree programs that focus on the topic of intercultural (business) communication and global leadership, there are no clear certification processes or standards of education to become a cross-cultural specialist.

The paths that professionals in the industry took to gain their knowledge and experience are windy. We’ve asked our team the question “What brought you to the cross-cultural field” throughout our Inside Aperian Global series, highlighting our own employees. And now, we’re sharing their stories of what brought them to work in this particular area of consulting with you.
